I have known Doc ever since I was a kid. He was a wonderful man that was full of so much knowledge. He volunteered his time with 4-H and taught me a lot about woodworking. He was with his knowledge and skills that he passed to me that allowed me to build a birdhouse that won Blue Ribbon/Champion at the KY State Fair. Doc always had a story.

He taught me a lot about being a firefighter too, especially about ropes and tying knots. In his day, there probably wasn’t anything Doc couldn’t climb and be safe while doing it.

I will never forget my early days of being on the department with Doc and him bringing up hard-boiled Quail eggs. We all would just sit around after the meeting and eat those eggs and just talk.

There are many many more memories, to many to share, but at least I know that there will be plenty of Dulcimer music now in heaven and honey for the cornbread.

I too have known Doc since a little girl. Having grown up with his daughter Charlie, I was over at their house alot. He was always so sweet to us. I loved watching him with the quail and bees. He was always so helpful to anyone who needed it. He like my Dad was very active with the fire department. At least now I know he is in heaven with my Dad talking about the fire department. You guys at the department better watch out they are watching you.

Doc was an outstanding gentleman and adopted us into his family. He made us feel truly at home when we moved in the neighborhood. By sharing his honey, tilling our garden, inviting us over for a meal, telling stories, giving advice and making toys for the boys. We will truly miss him and we are very blessed to have had him in our life.
