Land Acuisition by Pewee Valley Fire District

PEWEE VALLEY, KY – The Pewee Valley Fire Protection District has announced the recent acquisition of five acres of land from the Commonwealth of Kentucky on Ash Avenue in Shelby County.  The property is next to and east of the Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women (KCIW) and near the Overlook at Persimmon Ridge. The land was previously part of the KCIW.  As part of the agreement the property will be used as the future building site for a second fire station within the Pewee Valley Fire District to serve the growing needs of west Shelby County which includes Persimmon Ridge.  The present fire station is located at 8607 Foley Ave. (Lagrange Road) in Pewee Valley.

“The new fire station will certainly give us better response times and added protection for our citizens in that part of our jurisdiction,” said Fire Chief Bob Hamilton. “The Pewee Valley Fire District has all volunteer firefighters and it will be vital to recruit new members, especially from that part of Shelby County, before the new station can be built.”

According to Chief Hamilton there are currently 28 men and women serving the community as firefighters on the Pewee Valley Fire Department. Any citizens interested in joining the Pewee Valley Fire Department are encouraged to go to the PVFD website, www.peweevalleyfire.org where they will find an application and requirements. Chief Hamilton also stated that training meetings are held at the fire station on Foley Ave. every Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM.

“We welcome anybody interested in joining the department to come by the station and see who we are and what we do,” said Chief Hamilton. “We would love to have you join our team.”

Any Future Information or Media statements to be released or obtained  can contact  Robert Hamilton Chief of the Department .
